Udo Kier is a German actor who is well known for his exceptional collaboration with some top filmmakers like Lars von Trier, Gus van Sant, Werner Herzog, Mendonça Filho, Guy Maddin, Alexander Payne, and Paul Morrissey. Udo Kier debuted in 1966 with the short film ‘Road to Saint Tropez’.
His career boomed after the release of his movie ‘Suspiria’ in 1977 made by Dario Argento in which he played the character of the lead role. After this movie, he became very famous and worked with many cult filmmakers including Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Walerian Borowczyk, and Gus Van Sant. He also appeared in the film ‘Epidemic’ in 1987 made by a famous Danish film director Lars von Trier and soon became his favorite choice for the rest of his movies.
As a performer, Udo Kier has appeared in more than 220 films and also won a number of awards. In the year 2014, he got the ‘Cine Merit Award’ at the Munich Film Festival. He was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards as ‘the Best Male Lead’ in 2022.
Some famous Udo Kier movies are ‘Ace Ventura—Pet Detective’ in which he was featured as Ron camp, in ‘Armageddon’ as a NASA flight psychologist, and in ‘Johnny Mnemonic’ as Ralfi. Some of his movies like ‘Provocation’ (1972), ‘The Story of O’, and the ‘Invincible’ failed to impress the public as well as critics.
